Tech Burst: Simple Windows PC Tune UP

If you have notices that your system has started to run slower and takes longer to boot up. Many times you need to do is tune up your PC. Tuning Up your PC is a very simple process. Basically you have to perform some simple tasks such as

Defragmenting the registry

2. Deleting Temporary Files

3. Disable unwanted start up items

4. Uninstalling programs that are you are not using

Access MS Config.

There are many pieces of software out in market to do all these but I prefer C cleaner . It is easily available from the link, you can download it and it will delete all unnecessary temp. files, remove start ups and unwanted programs from your system.

Tuning Up....

A tune up is much like changing the oil on your car, changing the air filter etc. basically we are doing simple simple routine maintenance on a computer that already works up pretty well. It is just slower a bit, takes a little more time to boot. We will be going to do deleting temporary files, defragmenting the registry, uninstalling the unused programs, disabling the start-up items. A windows system having 0 viruses and 0 spywares can also be running slower, this requires a tune up because I don’t know why but there is no self-maintenance in windows.

Getting Rid off the Temporary Files

Every time you visit a Webpage on internet, some cookies and temporary files are downloaded to your system. Accumulating of these files in large volumes can slow up your system.To get rid off these you can use a tool C cleaner. It will search Windows registry and delete all those Temporary files.

Removing the Unwanted Programs

There may be some programs present on the System which you really don't care about anymore. Just Uninstall them! Go to control Panel, Add/Remove section will show you a list of programs installed on your PC. Remove the unwanted one's from there. Also there may be unwanted spammy kind of stuffs like tool bars, games etc. which you don't want anymore in your PC. Just remove them completely, this will help your PC to run a bit faster.

Cleaning the Start up folder

Having problem with slow booting of your PC can be due to a lot of programs present in the Start up folder. Heavy software applications like Adobe, Oracle, Quickbook etc. take too much time to load, so they start loading every time your PC boots. If You don't want these to load every time you turn on your system, then go to Start up folder from the start button and remove.

Maintaining Hard Drive

For a windows PC we should have at least 10% of the hard drive free for best usage. This is because of basic functioning of computer. Computer generates some shadow files and so in order to work properly it needs that 10% of your hard drive space. Not leaving this much space makes your system to act weird, it might begin to work slow, it will start freezing etc.

Cleaning up the Registry

Defragmenting the registry is the next important task in Tuning up your PC. Registry in a windows computer is a database that contains lot of configuration information for the operating system and software installed on that computer. Things like what the task manager shows up, Power mgt., What happens when the computer shuts down and much more stuff is stored in the registry. Whenever u install a new piece of software it insert values into your registry.

Problem with windows is it never properly cleans up the registry. Like if you uninstall some software, or stop using something it doesn’t necessarily gets taken out of the registry. This is a problem because when your PC is doing routine tasks it goes to the registry and see what commands it is supposed to run. Now you may have commands in the registry that are supposed to be run but they now point to the files that no longer exists. Now if your PC try to run those files it will fail, which will make your computer run slower and it will keep doing that. I have seen that you may have over 500 invalid registry keys and every time your PC is trying to run these it fails because they doesn't exist.

C cleaner will scan the registry. and will look for invalid keys. If the key points to something that doesn’t exist it will delete it. This will make your PC to run faster.
